Outdoor Sports Committee Spring Bird Bash, March 20
March Madness Alpine Club style took place March 20 with the timed Chukar challenge.
There were 15 teams entered with all teams, dogs and handlers declared the winners. A good time was had by all or so it was reported. The birds flew very well, the dogs hunted very hard and all the guns fired, some better than others. This hunt was specifically designated to be for FUN only as no prizes were awarded.
Some interesting stats about the hunt as noted below:
Field One: Total points 615, Average score: 123
Field Two: Total points 564, Average score: 113
Field Three: Total points 643, Average score: 129
Scoring range was from 80 points to 180 points The point delta in average scores totalled 16 points Spreads between fields 2 versus 1 were negative 10 and positive 6 between 3 versus field 1 with a 16 point difference in field 2 versus 3.
All fields were approximately 20,000 square yards.
Average time to complete the Hunt was about 16 minutes.
Jack Albenze served huge portions of choise black angus prime rib with football sized baked potatos, salad, carrots and desert. He is to be commended along with Sherry for the efforts put forth by both of them.
Thanks to all who worked very hard to make this happen as smoothly as it went off.

Member Notice - Box Trailer Property
Anyone who has property in the silver box trailer, located by the bird pens, has until March 27, 2010 to remove those items.
After that date, any items remaining are at risk and will be removed. We are preparing to rebuild the bird pens and must clear the area. An anticipated work date has been set for April 10, 2010 to address other items for the rebuilding project.

Second Annual Deer Drive Invitational
After a much slower start in 2009, and contrary to
the long odds predicted by some naysayers, the Second Annual Deer Drive
Invitational was a huge success. On January 16, 2010, a full roster of
hunters gathered to participate in four separate coordinated drives
covering the entire Alpine Club property. Designated drivers converged
on lines of hunters, resulting in combined hunting successes for all
involved. Equally impressive to the results of the hunt was the
celebration which followed. Everything from the hot coffee before dawn
to the several prepared dishes and liquid candy savored after the DDI
hunt enhanced the memorable hunting experience and the companionship of
family and good friends. The 2010 DDI hunt was unanimously declared to
be a tremendous success. Special thanks goes to Tony Sciorilli for
organizing the DDI hunt and also to his cast of "usual suspects" who put
together an excellent hunting event. It will be difficult to do any
better in 2011!

It takes a large number of volunteers to
run an event like this, and if you have been to an OSC event, you know
who those guys are. But there are a few that need special mention.
Our thanks to Jerry Dixon and his crew for
running the outdoor side of the event, and Bruce Barnhart for keeping
the cash in order. A special thanks
goes out to Jack for providing a fine lunch!
Does anyone want to do an Easter Bunny

Alpine Hunting and Fishing Club
Oktoberfest
was held October 11th from 12:00 - 5:00 PM. What a beautiful sunny
autumn day made even better by great food and a Steeler victory! A
delicious buffet meal of
Roast Pork Loin & Sauerkraut,
German Potato Salad,
Bratwurst, Kielbassi, Hot Dogs, Pierogies, Apple Pie & German Chocolate Cake
was prepared and served by Jack Albenze and his staff.
The day's events included a Pumpkin Hunt, Hay Rides, Sporting Clays,
Fishing, Watching the Steelers win over the Detroit Lions and a Door Prize
won by hard working club member and volunteer, Ray Kassab. An added
attraction for all ages was the display of Dave Tambellini's 9-11-2001
fire truck, Tin Man.
Many thanks to the efforts of the Outdoor Sports
Committee (OSC) and other club members who volunteered their time to make this
an enjoyable Sunday afternoon.

Hunt Management Team
2009 Club Work Days
Many thanks to those (too many to mention) who showed up at the work day Saturday, September 26, 2009. New backstops were installed on
the shooting range and the bird pens were sanitized with concentrations
of Clorox for a second time as well as the feeders and watering bottles.
The inclement weather prevented the final roof repairs from being
accomplished. This would appear to be the only remaining item to address
before all holding pens are fully available for the ABC to bring in
inventory for use.
Thanks again. John B.

August Club Work Day Many thanks are due to the
intrepid group of volunteers who worked on repairs to the bird
pens. One roof and storage areas were targeted.
The HMT appreciates the
efforts of the following individuals: Bruce Barnhart, Rob Keddie,
Kevin and Jan Kees, Mark Kenny, Woody Lesnett, Dave May, Tony
Sciorilli and Don Zarra. A number of repairs were effected enabling
the use of the pens for the upcoming hunting season. We are
grateful for your efforts and time. Some additional work needs to
be accomplished before the season opens and is the target of the
team.
Kudos to all

LOBSTER FEST
The Alpine Club's
annual Lobster Fest on September 12th had a capacity crowd. Members,
relatives and friends said the food was delicious. Events like this can
only happen with many hard working people contributing their efforts.
We will not try to list all the volunteers who made the Lobster Fest a
success for fear we may forget someone. Many thanks go out to
Joyce's Cookies (412-771-7124) and Toni Nasky (412-341-5826) for
donating their wonderful desserts. Please support these
businesses.

SUMMER FESTIVAL
came and went August 16, 2009, but what a great time parents,
grandparents and children had! Adults and kids took turns in the dunking
tank. Train rides, the bouncy house, the slide, water balloons, bucket
pong, and an obstacle course kept everyone entertained. The
magician/balloon man treated the children with tricks and balloon
animals. Kudos to Peg Sciorilli and her team of volunteers.
This was definitely a fun-packed summer Sunday for all those who
attended!
